Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries

Mission: Our mission is to serve as the central resource for fighting hunger in Northwest Louisiana. Our vision is to ultimately end hunger in Northwest Louisiana by ensuring a consolidated network of effective food collection and distribution which will provide universal access to free food for the needy in our communities.

Target demographics: provide food and household items to individuals living below the poverty level.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 75,000 individuals - families, elderly, homeless, disabled, veterans, unemployed, and underemployed

Geographic areas served: Caddo, Bossier, Webster Claiborne, Bienville, Red River and DeSoto Parishes in Northwest Louisiana

Programs: Providing more service to clients in northwest Louisiana than almost any other non-profit organization, the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana provides the following programs through its partnership with 150 non-profit organizations, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, church food pantries, schools and after school programs. Food Distribution: The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana distributed over 15 million pounds of food with a value of $20,000,000 to more than 75,000 unduplicated low-income and below poverty level women, children and men in the seven parishes in Northwest Louisiana. Disaster Relief: As a disaster responder we provided immediate assistance to our member agencies, pop-up and faith-based shelters and other individuals. During the 2016 Spring flood we distributed over $212,000 of food, water and supplies to disaster victims. Summer Food Service Program: Provide nutritional breakfasts and lunches for hungry children that have no access to free food during the summer months when school is not in session. Kids Cafe®: Provided daily hot meals and nutritional education to 1,300 hungry children enrolled in Volunteers of America Lighthouse, the Youth Enrichment Program (YEP) and Winner’s Circle after-school programs. BackPack™ Program: 1,650 chronically hungry children are provided with a weekly backpack of food to take home for the weekend and holidays. The 7-10 pound bag included items such as granola bars, fruit juice, and pop-top canned food. Senior Program: Provided a monthly box of pantry staple foods to over 1,200 low income seniors throughout our 7 parishes. Mobile Pantry: Provided food to rural pantry clients on a monthly basis. K. I. D. S. (Kids in Distressed Situations): A national program which distributed new clothing and toys to children in need.
