Mission: To protect and conserve the forests of maine

Programs: Permanently conserved forestlands primarily utilizing conservation easements; monitored and enforced terms of the conservation easements that fsm is responsible for; worked with forestland owners and others to discuss forestland conservation issues and possibilities; provided community support and information regarding conserved lands; and informed landowners and the public about the importance of keeping forests as forests. The organization fundraised for the kiw-silver lake and gulf hagas- whitecap projects that were completed and distributed to appropriate parties at the projects closings during the year ended july 31,2017.The land acquisition expense for kiw - silver lake involved acquisition of fee lands for immediate assignment to the appalachian mountain club (amc), subject to an fsm-held conservation easement. The land acquisition expense for gulf hagas - whitecap included various property and easement costs, and a road endowment, none of which are held by fsm. Grant expense totaled $2,331,647 for the aquisitions.
