Super excited to find another corer like this! I had one just like it from around 1999/2000, used it pretty regularly, our five kids have all used it a ton, and we've always placed it in the top rack of the dishwasher so it's not like we treated it “gently” or with extra care. It was a regularly used kitchen utensil and well loved. After probably 500 runs through the dishwasher and maybe 5-10 drops on the floor throughout the years, the plastic ring at the top of the metal tube was getting old, brittle, starting to crack. I didn't want anyone to get hurt so I started looking for a replacement. WHY is this style so hard to find?? I have a 3-in-1 peeler/corer/slicer which we use for pie, a slicer/corer which is great for an easy snack when the kids want sliced apples (as opposed to a whole one, especially when they have loose teeth or braces) gets used a ton, but this corer is a staple gadget for us! When the kids don't want their apple sliced but don't want to be left holding a core, or if they don't want to have to eat down far enough to find the core waste more of the apple, this is our go-to tool. Even our kids are experts at using it from age 5 up. It fits so easily in the dishwasher (we'll only put it in the third rack now, the extra silverware rack at the very top) so this one will be exposed to a little less in terms of the dishwasher exposure. I expect it to last just as long as our first one, but if it lasts even half as long then I'll be thrilled because it's small easy to store but also inexpensive so it wouldn't bother me to replace it every ten years if I need to! We LOVE this corer and so do the kids.

This tool works good to core. I got it to can apples from my tree. But the apples were not symmetrical and had many bad spots so the tool was not that useful as a help. I quartered with a bread knife and then used a curved blade paring knife to cut up the fruit. Good aim and 3D visualization are essential.

I had been using a corer with a serrated edge. It is very difficult to get the core out of the tool. I have hurt my fingers trying to remove the core from the tool. This corer with plunger is IDEAL. I used it last night and it was quick and easy to core apples and clean the tool with the plunger. Process went quickly and I didn't hurt my hands at all. Wish I had seen this sooner. An excellent tool worth the price.
