Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Freeman Arabian Ranch & Rescue (FARR) is a primarily self-funded, 100% volunteer and donation based, Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) Verified, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit forever animal rescue/sanctuary located on thirty nine acres north of Topeka, Kansas. We are "Top Rated" with GreatNonprofits and have earned a Platinum Seal of Transparency with GuideStar. Although our name includes the word Ranch, we DO NOT breed, sell, adopt out, show or compete. We simply enjoy the love, loyalty, friendship and companionship of our sanctuary family members. We are content feeding, grooming, caring for and spending quality time with them therefore we are well suited for sanctuary work and have over thirty years' experience in animal rescue and rehabilitation. Those who come into our care become permanent members of our sanctuary family and live out the remainder of their lives with us never knowing hunger, neglect, cruelty, fear or abandonment ever again. We are a forever sanctuary for predominantly senior horses, dogs and cats who may be considered by some to be less desirable not only due to advanced age but also due to physical limitations, medical conditions and/or imperfections. We focus on rescuing the Arabian horse breed in particular as they are often stereotyped, misunderstood and discriminated against but we adore, understand and respect their distinctive traits and personalities. In addition, we transport and foster for other rescues and advocate for new and improved animal protection legislation as a means of improving the lives of more animals than we can possibly provide lifetime care for ourselves.

Results: Since becoming a 501(c)(3) in 2015, we have provided lifetime care and sanctuary to twenty six souls including horses, dogs, cats and bunnies.

Target demographics: We help all animals but especially horses, dogs and cats.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year, our Community Assi Program helped dozens of horses with donated hay, assisted pet owners with resources and, when necessary, rehoming and we welcomed a 28 year old Arabian mare and a stray cat into our sanctuary family.

Geographic areas served: Our local community and beyond

Programs: In addition to rescue/sanctuary, we offer a Community Assistance Program and several animal welfare and educational programs regarding responsible pet ownership. We transport and foster for other rescues and advocate for new and improved animal protection legislation as a means of improving the lives of more animals than we can possibly provide lifetime care for ourselves. We enjoy collaborating with other rescues, shelters, animal welfare organizations and law enforcement to aid animals in any way we that are able.
