Mission: The mission of Furry Friends Foster and Rescue Inc. is to save urgent dogs in high kill shelters, primarily in the State of Connecticut, and other pets in bad situations needing a new home. Further, our mission is to attend to the medical and behavioral needs of these animals and place them in wonderful, loving forever homes. In addition, we strive to educate the public about proper care of their pets, including encouraging spaying and neutering of all pets, providing information regarding low cost spay neuter options, and about programs that can help pet owners with limited resources to keep their pets in their home.

Results: Our rescue was founded on February 26,2014.Since then we have saved over 250 dogs and placed over 200 in wonderful forever homes. We have raised funds for one dog who needed heart surgery which was performed at Tufts and who was subsequently placed in a wonderful adoptive home - and are currently treating one dog for cancer and have another dog headed for a board and train program who spent many months in a basement. We have retrained numerous other dogs - both in the rescue and in board and trains when necessary. We've treated multiple dogs for heartworm, and helped one of our adopters whose dog had a blockage to provide life-saving surgery for him.

Target demographics: We help dogs in local CT pounds and other dogs in bad situations. We take into rescue the dogs who need us the most - those at risk of euthanasia, and those with considerable medical and/or behaviorl needs

Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2016 we brought over 100 dogs into our rescue, with 75 of them finding forever homes within 2016.

Geographic areas served: Our rescue is based in Monroe CT.

Programs: We have a dedicated medical fund, so we are able to help dogs who need help with medical care that goes beyond the normal veterinary care - vaccines, tests, spay/neuter - that we give to all dogs coming into our rescue. We have a trainer on our Board of Directors who works with dogs needing training and/or behavior modification prior to being adopted. We've also recently started the FFFR Seniors for Seniors program. We match senior dogs (7 years old or older) with senior citizens, realizing that having a pet can enhance the lives of older people, and that older dogs are often a better match for people who are 65 years old or older.
