Causes: Education, Environment, Health

Mission: The foundation's mission is to formulate and promote public policies based on the principles of free markets, individual freedom and limited government.

Target demographics: citizens, taxpayers and elected officials

Direct beneficiaries per year: the Georgia Legislature and other elected officials and nonprofit organizations.

Geographic areas served: public policy in Georgia

Programs: The Georgia Public Policy Foundation focuses on providing access to quality education to all students. The Foundation has released major studies on education savings accounts and the fiscal impact of tax credit scholarships. We continue to promote digital learning, helped drive the effort to connect all public schools to high-speed internet service, and promote raising the contribution cap for the tuition tax credit scholarship to enable more students to attend the school of their choice. Success of past efforts: Georgia was ranked among the top ten states in digital learning policy and is among the states with a charter school law and scholarships for special needs students and other students to attend the school of their choice.

Project two: Healthcare. Focuses on lowering the cost of healthcare and improving access. The Foundation published major studies on telehealth and a patient-centered alternative to Medicaid expansion, and promoted the concept of direct primary care (sometimes referred to as concierge care). Success of past efforts: Georgia is a national leader in telehealth and has the largest network of private, charitable care clinics in the nation.

Project three: Economic opportunity, focused on breaking down barriers to economic opportunity. The Foundation publishes papers and hosts events highlighting the barriers to upward mobility, including unnecessary ordinances, laws and regulations harming families, businesses and many professionals. Reflecting our nonpartisan philosophy, we work with state and national organizations from both sides of the aisle to highlight the social injustice of civil asset forfeiture. We have shone a light on the gross inequities of the current medical malpractice system. We promoted reform of the states foster care system that would help private organizations put the child first; we shared the importance of transit as it relates to access to employment; and worked on criminal justice reforms to ensure opportunity for those who have paid their debt to society. Success of past efforts: Georgia continues to be recognized for its criminal justice reforms we first promoted more than a decade ago. Georgia eliminated licensing requirements for African hairbraiders, passed a law allowing ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyftm and continued "smart on crime" efforts to tear down barriers so inmates can re-enter the workplace after serving their time.
