Causes: Children & Youth, Girl Scouts of the U. S. A.

Mission: To build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

Programs: Girl scout leadership experience (gsle) - the girl scout leadership experience prepares girls for a lifetime of leadership by helping girls develop a strong sense of self, become challenge seekers, display positive values, develop healthy relationships and contribute to the community. Our programs enable girls to discover new skills, connect with others and take action to make their world a better place. Through our annual cookie program, girls develop essential life skills--goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics--all while soaring in confidence and practicing leadership. 7,000 girls participated in 2017, selling over 1m boxes of cookies. This generated $2.5m, used by the council to further the mission of local girl scouting through programs and services. Another $650k was earned by the troops and used by the girls in our community to help power new experiences such as community service projects and leadership and camp adventures. Our community outreach program, girls go beyond, provided 2,800 girls new opportunities and leadership experiences. This year, 231 girls earned the bronze award, 154 girls earned the silver award and 29 girls earned the gold award. These awards represent the highest accomplishments girls can achieve in girl scouting and represent more than 14,600 hours of service.

membership engagement - girl scouting is primarily delivered by volunteers with council support and resources dedicated for girl and adult recruitment, registration, and placement, and volunteer education, support, retention, and management. During 2017, we served 11,500 girls thanks to our dedicated 4,800 adult members, and trained 1,200 adults in required and enrichment trainings. 24% of our membership represented girls from underserved and/or fragile communities.

camp & outdoor experience - the outdoor experience is a critical component of the girl scout program where girls gain new skills, work together, try new things, and "un-plug" in the great outdoors. In 2017 we had over 5,000 people participating in activities such as canoeing, swimming, archery, team building activities, high challenge course elements, climbing and bouldering walls at one of our 3 properties and over half of those people spent at least one night at camp. At our newest property, the 700-acre dale earnhardt environmental leadership campus at oak springs, we held our 2nd year of overnight summer camp where 340 girls enjoyed several days swimming, boating, climbing, and many other activities. Additionally, 200 girls attended our week long day camp program.
