Great Book. It has detailed drawings of the techniques, knots, webbing, ropes, etc. needed to navigate glaciers.

I've spent a little bit of time on glaciers but had little more than a pre-trip crash course on what to expect. That's all well and good when you have a guide, but I wanted to be more confident for my own work and play around glaciers and on ice fields. This book is just the thing!

Great info, accurately presented, and fun to read as well? What more could you want? If you buy it digitally for Apple ibooks, you will be able to zoom in on the diagrams, which I found very helpful. I bought it in paper and then digitally as well. A terrific book!

Fun way to get through some serious topics. I read it on my phone which was better than expected vs kindle or computer.

Calling this a 34;textbook34; is being very generous. This is a decent overview of snow travel / mountaineering skills, but really lacks detail. Spends too much time trying to be cute, and only gives a general 34;what34; to do, without spending any time on the 34;why34;. If you're going to learn the skills needed for the types of outings described in this book, you'll need another source that goes into much greater detail, so the utility of this Glacier Mountaineering book is severely limited.

Informative and with very helpful illustrations. I found this more useful than 34;Freedom of the Hills34; or the other 34;Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue34; book from the Mountaineers. If you had to pick one book, go with this one, but if it's your first time on a glacier I'd recommend reading all the material you can or even taking a class.
