Mission: Global Press creates a more informed and inclusive world by training and employing local women journalists in some of the world’s least-covered places to produce ethical, accurate news for targeted local and global audiences. Global Press transforms international journalism by disrupting global narratives and promoting local access to information. By reimagining international journalism to foster global equity, we help people better understand our world.

Results: Since Global Press was founded in 2006, it has changed the global media narrative from more than 40 communities, where war, poverty, disaster and disease dominate mainstream headlines. Global Press news offers long-term, comprehensive, locally-reported stories on education, health, environment, enterprise, gender justice, human rights and politics to readers in the local communities where our independent news bureaus are located, and to millions of global readers who want ethical, authentic storytelling from some of the world’s least-covered places. Our reporting is often a foundation for change. Here are some instances of the impact our news coverage has had: --A 2021 story on the rampant use of virginity testing in Mongolian schools compelled the government of Mongolia to issue a regulation to stop the practice in public schools. In 2022, as part of a follow-up, our reporter found that despite the regulation, the practice continued. --Our 2017 story about the dangers of mercury mining in Zimbabwe urged rights activists and policymakers into action. The next year, we hosted a panel discussion with experts and our reporter discussing the issue. In 2020, the government officially banned the use of mercury in gold mining and, in 2021, ratified the Minamata Convention. --Our 2021 story about Mexican farmers working to reduce pollution led to the city allowing stover burns on certain days and times, with penalties for those who do not follow the rules. --A 2021 story about how commercial fishing fleets were devastating local fishing in Mexico’s popular Nayarit tourist area prompted local restaurants to create a seal telling patrons which fish were caught sustainability by local fishermen. --A 2020 story about the failures of Nepal’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission that left more than 69,000 cases unheard, prompted the government to reconvene the commission and begin hearing cases. --Our 2018 story on a massive dam being built prevented the eviction of tens of thousands of people in India-administered Kashmir. --A 2017 story about children babysitting other children at the Rwanda-DRC border received wide readership in both countries and led to the community building a daycare at the border.
