Mission: Go Conscious Earth partners with forest-dependent communities to protect the Congo Basin Rainforest, improve the livelihoods of the people, and support global climate stability.

Results: Since 2012, Go Conscious Earth has been diligently working at the intersection of forest conservation and poverty alleviation in the Congo Basin Rainforest, specifically in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The DRC contains the largest area of the Congo Basin Rainforest, with 107 million hectares, amounting to 60% of Central Africa's lowland forest cover, the second-largest contiguous tract of tropical forests in the world. In April of 2014, GCEarth promoted and secured a land concession agreement with the DRC government that protects one million acres of rainforest and wetlands around Lake Tumba. At the same time, GCEarth helped the local villages form Tribal Councils, whose jobs now include monitoring and safeguarding the wells and future GCEarth initiatives for the villages they represent. In February of 2016, GCEarth began building wells and to date has built 17 wells which are still fully functional and continue to provide safe drinking water for 33,000 people. In 2016, the DRC Government also passed Community Forestry Laws. In 2017, we installed marketplace solar systems and established sustainable cacao production. In 2018, we established 3 Community Forestry Land Concessions (CFCLs) north of Lake Tumba. In 2020, we established a 4th CFCL. Now in 2022, we support 4 Community Forestry Land Concessions (CFCLs) and are empowering the 34,000 members of these communities to help protect their 220,000 acres which now belongs to them, in perpetuity. We have helped establish governance systems and are now in the process of collecting land mapping, forestry, endangered species, and socioeconomic data so that in 2023 we may begin establishing sustainable livelihood programs, additional well building, women's empowerment programs, schools, and medical clinics, all according to the needs of each community, as defined by them. Only by partnering with the people can we ensure that the forests upon which we all depend stay intact.
