Mission: Mission: Fulfilling needs at home and abroad through meaningful service opportunities. Good News Project is a 39-year-old nonprofit organization with a vision of caring for the environment and each other, through three different programs. As a DNR registered and compliant collector, Good News Project’s Electronic Recycling (e-CYCLING) Program provides a resource in Central Wisconsin to help keep electronic waste out of landfills by collecting and safely recycling outdated electronics. Valuable resources are reused, toxins are kept out of our air and water supplies, and nothing ends up in the landfill. During 2020, our e-CYCLING collection program was acknowledged by the Wisconsin DNR with an electronics collection Excellence Award. Through the Health Equipment Lending Program (HELP), Good News Project provides the connection between those who have used medical equipment to donate, and those who need to borrow equipment for short-term use. Volunteers assess the equipment condition, repair if possible, or scrap parts for recycling. Those in workable condition are sent through a sanitizing machine and absorbed into the inventory of equipment, ready for lending to clients. HELP was mentioned in the Harvard Health Letter March 2020 as being an accessible and user-friendly resource for people with durable medical equipment needs. Good News Project facilitates international trips for volunteers with a heart for service. These trips, to some of the most lush islands in the West Indies, focus on providing housing, education for sustainable living and companionship for the poor. Trips have been put on hold by our board of directors until 2024.

Results: As mentioned, GNP’s mission strives to fulfill needs at home and abroad by providing meaningful service opportunities. We continuallyshow success by offering such opportunities weekly, providing a sense of purpose and camaraderie for our volunteers. This is evidenced by the fact that in 2021,465 volunteers gave 4,710 service hours to support our local programs. In 1 year, an average of 1,300 pieces of durable medical equipment are donated to our program for reuse rather than ending up in landfills. In 2021 we served 2,088 families through our HELP Program. GNP is the only comprehensive Electronics Recycling (e-CYCLING) center in Marathon County that accepts nearly all electronics from households, businesses, schools and other sources. Our e-CYCLING impact has stretched across the greater Central Wisconsin area, touching 21,990 individuals, 1,127 businesses and e-CYCLING 2,075,561 pounds (1,037 tons) since inception
