Mission: Activating inclusive participation in sustainable community development with our globally recognized icons, adaptable engagement and mapmaking tools, we support locally-led Green Map projects in 65 countries and encourage collaboration among them. Our mission is to help each local team build leadership capacity, knowledge and networks as they identify, promote and link their city’s ecological, cultural, employment and social justice resources. Printed, interactive and multimedia Green Maps share a worldview that’s immediate, resilient, actionable and naturally attractive to a wide range of residents, decision-makers and visitors, impacting the economy, climate and commons we all share.
Results: We have won 20 different awards for our icons, mapping tools and program. Hundreds of Green Maps are now available to the public. Our tool center includes both locally-made tools shared by Green Mapmakers and many that we have created for them. Target demographics: Everyone! We provide Green Mapmaking tools to students, grassroots groups, NGOs, universities, governmental agencies and others. Residents, tourists, researchers and media of all backgrounds use the Green Maps.
Direct beneficiaries per year: About 100 new projects start each year
Geographic areas served: 875 diverse communities in 65 countrieserse communities in 55 countries
Programs:
Green Mapmakers include students, grassroots groups, NGOs, universities, governmental agencies and others. As they chart the way towards a healthier, more resilient and sustainable future, the resulting Green Maps benefit residents, tourists and decision-makers.
Over 500 locally designed, printed Green Maps are in use. 350 interactive maps, created on our Open Green Map platform, can be enhanced with public comments and images, explored on mobile phones and embedded in websites.
Our tools build capacity, knowledge and networks. In 2013 - 2014, with your support, we are developing a ‘data bridge’ to support collaboration and new partnerships to accelerate progress and taking part in beyond-the map initiatives that impact people of all backgrounds.
