Had to adjust table but after that it works great! It was leaving a little dip due to being un level but an easy fix. Wood comes out so smooth! Some pieces need a few passes but overall very impressed. Make sure you wear earplugs! Between vacuum and planer it's kinda loud.

I don't have any real experience with a thickness plainer but saw so many woodworkers using these things i thought I'd give it a try. I have only ran some construction 2x4s through it so far, but i was super excited at the result. The only snipe i saw was when i was being aggressive with the thickness of the cut. With removing only either 1/32 or 1/16 i saw no snipe. Just for fun i'm going to take a couple cheap construction grade 2x4s and plane them down to make a block cutting board just for fun. The, along with mettle 6” jointer, is going to get a ton of use over the next year.

What an incredible tool this is. Woodworkers in the market for a planer should not even consider any other machine. I upgraded to this after many years of struggling with a complete dud of a machine from the orange tool brand and I couldn't be happier. My old machine gave me poor results in nearly every way possible. It lacked power so that when planing hardwoods I could often take no more than a 64th of an inch at a time. I would waste an incredible amount of time standing at the planer dimensioning stock. It was often out of parallel and difficult to adjust. The knives barely lasted a few board feet of hardwood before becoming noticeably dull. Chips often got clogged under the knives and I would have to stop to remove and clean them. For many years I thought these problems were common to all portable style planers, but the Dewalt has none of these issues. I can plane double or even three times as much in a single pass, drastically reducing the amount of time I spend dimensioning lumber. The two speed cutterhead is fantastic. It allows me to quickly bring down stock to proper thickness and then get a superb finish with the slow speed. I find most of the criticisms of this product are not valid. Noise levels are not bad at all. It's noticeably quieter than my last machine. The knives also stay sharp much longer. I've planed many board feet of maple without rotating the knives and there has been no noticeable dropoff in performance. That sort of thing would have ruined a set of knives on my old planer. Even moderately figured wood and reversing grain don't cause this machine many problems. And folks really need to stop complaining about snipe or a nick on their blades. All planers snipe, yet on the Dewalt it is about as minimal as it gets. You just have to plan for it and feed stock through continuously with a little waste on either end. As for nicks, these sand out so easily I will never understand why people complain about it. Just sand your projects folks! And buy the Dewalt planer!

The set up and design of this machine is well though out making it extremely user friendly. Best table top planner I have used. I highly recommend it.

Finish as smooth as sanding. Noise level is equivalent to other 12” planers.

Verry nice planer easy to use although it's sold as a portable this comes in at 90 pounds making it a little less than portable but I have it mounted to a stand on wheels to make moving it around the shop easy ohh yeah beware the chips shoot out a great distance

Have used for poplar maple and a little oak, blade got knocked but still works. Overall, it's a good value, just haven't figured out snipe with factory in feed and out feed tables. But it works well and have zero regrets with purchase

Pros1. Very easy set up2. It's heavy so it's very sturdy3. Cuts nicely as you can see from the before and after pictures.4. Noise level is loud but the vacuum is on too so everything is loud. Just need to wear ear and eye protection.Cons1. Vacuum adapter doesn't fit the standard shopvac. I have a rigid shop vac and it doesn't fit so I had to tape it up as can see from my pictures.2. Vacuum location is right on top of where the wood comes out so the wood can potentially touch the vacuum hose if not careful. DeWalt should fix that.Even with my concerns, I would recommend it.

I am a novice woodworker, but so far it is easy to use. It seems to be very consistent.

This thing is great, it really does a great job, is fast and easy for a thickness planar. Keep in mind, it is not a jointer, but can be used to square up 2 sides, then thickness planar for all your home made objects and projects. Be careful. Peace.

Bought to replace my old planer. Nice size and works great. Bought the extensions for table base and the table. Everything fits perfectly together. The three blades make a very even cut. Finished cut is very smooth. Recommend this planer.

Wow. What a great little planer. Smooth, great cut, and awesome chip collection. I have to say the chip collection with a dust bag and flex hose works way better than I could have ever hoped for. It catches like 98 of the chips. Okay now as a planer, clean cut and almost no snipe at all.like nearly zero. I just planed about 300LF of thermally treated ash and only had snipe on one or two boards where I didn't feed it well because I was tired. I have a big old 240V shop planer that I will now sell. This one works better. My only regret is that line a week after I bought this there was a promotion where they threw in the $200 stand as part of the deal.

Arrived broken. As this is my first dewalt product, and I had plans to buy another one soon, I hope this is resolved quickly.

This planer will impress you right off the bat with it's weight and solid construction. I ran a few test pieces through it and even at the faster feed rate the wood was glass smooth. The controls are very precise and easy to use. Does it have a tendency for snipe? Sure, but all portable planers have that. If you are careful it can be reduced to hardly detectable. As predicted, it will tear out highly figured woods but that is typical of straight blade planers. In short, this seems to me a great planer with the added benefit of being able to be upgraded to a helical cutter head easily. Good deal when the package is on sale!

This is a great planner. It is a lot quieter than my old one. This makes the smoothest finish. It's a heavy machine so don't expect to be able to just grab it and go.
