Out of the box you need only to install the adjuster wheel and plug it in! If you are going to do any woods over 3-4 feet I'd recommend purchasing the table extensions. The only downside to the machine right out of the box would be the blades. Get a set of high carbon steel and swap them out. Great little portable planer all in all!!!

Awesome addition to the shop. I have been wanting one of these for a long time. Leaves a very smooth surface after cut. It is very heavy though, highly recommend either buying a mobile stand or making one. Very little setup out of the box.

Wish I had bought this years ago. Also wish the spiral head didn't cost so much, but that part will have to wait. Was extremely surprised at how well it works. First project I did with it required little to no sanding. That made me happy

A bit loud but that is probably all shop equipment, just a bit louder when you have to run the vacuum also. I am new to using a planer so there was a bit of a learning curve but it's a good brand and they have good instructions.

This is my new favorite tool. I've been working with pallet wood for a while, and even though I enjoy it, I really wanted to try to take my skills to the next level. It's amazing what kinds of grain hide under the rough pallet wood. This planer makes pallet boards look like the premium hardwood stocked by all the big box stores.I couldn't see any evidence of sniping on the boards I tried, and hope to do some more glue-ups and running the resulting boards through the planer. Can't sing the praises of this one enough!

I think by now anyone looking for a lunchbox style planer knows that the DeWalt 735X is pretty much the go-to. It's reasonably priced and gets the job done.I think the biggest concerns people have with these types of planers is the potential for board snipe. Yes, it exists. Yes, there are ways to mitigate or even outright prevent it. Lots of guides available online and in the reviews that can help with that.It's definitely noisy, so please wear ear protection. It's also heavy. I recommend a rolling cart if you think you might want to move it around your shop.Blades are easy enough to change out and aren't super expensive. Just be careful what you are running through it - check for staples, nails, etc.I definitely recommend this for the hobbyist or even someone more advanced that doesn't need a massive planer.

I also have the Dewalt 734 and the 735 is great. I like the two speeds and the fast speed creates a very fine cut.

Planer really works well. easy to set up and use. Have planed walnut, myrtlewood, and doug-fir and really pleased with the finish. Only regret is that it's not 15 inches wide.
