I thought my grandson would get a kick out of the sounds this man makes while you operate on him. No more boring buzzer, he actually has comments.

I'll just straight up say it. This is not the same Operation game many of us grew up with. Many of the parts are very different, smaller and make a lot less sense (no explanations of the ailments like the original so you have no idea why you are pulling a dog or a cell phone out of somebody). You no longer have cards that tell you what part you need to remove. Getting paid for the operation is no longer part of the game. In the end this game feel very little like the original. As for the changes. Instead of cards you do get sound effects that tell you what to take out. A dog bark means remove the dog. A burp means remove the bubbles and on and on. That might make the game more economical and easier to setup/takedown (and less parts to lose), but those little details also helped make the game more interactive. At this point you can play the entire game without saying one word to each other. As for the parts you remove it's kinda weird. The old game had parts that pertained more to body parts like funny bone, broken heart, spare ribs and such. It gave you at least a little nod to being a doctor working on body parts. Not a single item in the new one refer to any body part. I don't know if some parents complained about it or what. The other thing about that is the plastic parts you do remove don't have as many options or tricks on how to get them out. So it's not as challenging or not as innovative. I will give a nod to the use of a couple of rubber parts to help make things interesting texture-wise. The use of a rubber band for one part is still there and is still neat, but I am concerned of what will happen once the band wears or snaps.I know I am being hard on this game, but it really isn't as bad as I am making it out to be. I'm just getting older and am complaining about things not being like they were in the glory days of board games. Operation is still fun to play and it has it's own challenges and innovations. There is one thing I don't think the first one had and that's adjusting the sensitivity of the contacts to give you two levels of skill. And most importantly my son gets to enjoy the concept of removing little parts with a pair of tweezers just like dad did his age.So the new Operation is very different than the old one. That doesn't mean it's still not a fun game to play. I am betting if they make the original now it would be a good deal more expensive, and this new one is actually priced pretty good. Operation is still a fun game. Just know what you are getting into if you have memories of the old version.

Okay, I'll admit that this game isn't as fun as I remember it being. Neither is it as challenging as I remember it being. But I still have a good time playing it with my kids, and they get a real kick out of it!

Fun game even for a doctor. I gave it only 4 stars because I prefer the old original without all of the crude sounds

Very fun game. A little noisy & smal pieces, but it is very fun to play. It's great for building fine motor skills for kids.

This is a classic game for kids. It has never been one of my favorites as I find that a lot of younger kids are scared of the noise it makes when you touch the side. It doesn't have a lot of replay-ability or education value. For fans of this classic game it is fine for others I would choose cranium cadoo, monopoly or another game.

I remember this game from when I was a kid and from playing it as a teenager when I would babysit. My 9yr old daughter wanted this so bad & she bought it with her own money. I was surprised when we opened the box and saw a much simplified vesion. While I like the simplified version it seems to me that it's a lot easier now to get the pieces out. For some reason I remember this game taking forever to play because the holes for the pieces were so small and you would always get buzzed. Now we can complete a game in less than 5 mins. I feel the need to track down an older version. My daughter enjoys so I give it 4 stars

I wish that this was built the way it was when i was a kid. It used to vibrate the whole board, now it just buzzes and lights up. My kids love to play it, but some of the pieces are hard to pick up because the tweezers of the flimsy tweezers. Fun game but it's not built like it used to be.

Great game that's been updated for the times. Unfortunately the quality of plastic that the game is made from feels quite flimsy and cheap. Hopefully it will stand the test of time. It is nice that you can vary the sensitivity of the buzzer so that the game is more enjoyable for younger kids.

It's a good game mainly because it increases interactions with other players. Promotes good hand eye coordination and increase fine motor skills( getting those pieces out of a small space without making the buzzer fo off is no easy task. I'm a counselor and I have found it to be invaluable.

I bought this as a secret santa gift for my daughters best friend. her mom informed me ahead of time that she wanted it. So far the girls (both 5) love playing this together. Its great to see them jump when it buzzes! they enjoy it and have lots of fun with it. price was reasonable but i have seen better at other retailers, especially this time of year. Shipping was quick and item was brand new in perfect shape, no issues with the item itself. I would recommend and buy again.

Got this game for my daughters (5 and 3yrs old) as one of their Xmas gifts. They think it's a riot. I had the original operation game when I was a little girl, and this new version looks a tad... cheaper. It just doesn't look as sturdy as the original game back in the 80s. What irked me the most though, is that when I opened it, there were 3 pieces missing. There is supposed to be a bag of 3 internal pieces, but for some reason they were left out. Anyhoo, I called the Hasbro toll free number (it's listed in the instruction booklet) and talked with a friendly rep who said she would send out the missing pieces to me. I got my operation game at Toys R Us for a steal: $7.99.

Not nearly as well made as when I was a kid but it has the nostalgic value which adds to the fun. My 4 year old is terrible at it but still loves to try and she loves it so that is all that matters. She doesn't realize it used to be much better made before it came from CHINA.
