Mission: The mission of Healthier Kids Foundation is to remove barriers that impact health, learning, and life success of Silicon Valley Youth. Our vision is for all Silicon Valley youth to achieve good health, educational equity, and success in life as productive community members. Every day we work diligently to improve health care access and utilization; change health behavior through education; and advocate for health policy and systems change.

Results: During the last 6.5 years, Healthier Kids Foundation has successfully provided over 340,000 health services which includes: 130,000 vision, 70,000 hearing, and 83,000 dental screenings; enrolled 18,000 children and families into health insurance; and acquired over 20,000 class attendances in healthy lifestyles and dental education workshops. Our findings show that 14% of the children we vision screened have 1 or more vision conditions (hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, anisotropia, and gaze asymmetry); 31% of the children we dental screened have chronic or emergency dental needs (cavities, gum disease, soft tissue lesions, recent trauma, or ectopic eruptions,  infections); and 8% of the children we hearing screened have hearing issues (half due to wax build up, fluid in ears, or an ear infection).

Programs: Healthier Kids Foundation partners with community based organizations and school sites in the Bay Area to (a) provide health screenings (VisionFirst, DentaFirst, HearingFirst) to low-income children; (b) connect parents to appropriate health services based on their child's screening; (c) identify uninsured children and assist their parents with enrolling them into health coverage (Baby Gateway and COPE); and (d) provide healthy lifestyle education and oral health education to parents to prevent and reduce childhood obesity and fight tooth decay (10 Steps to a Healthier You! and Oral Health Education).
