Mission: We stand as West Virginia’s largest, most effective equine advocacy organization. We also impact Kentucky and Ohio. We were founded in West Virginia at a time when no other organization existed to come to the aid of the horses, and we realize how important it is to expand the reach of rescue through out Appalachia. We know it is vital to assist counties' animal control and law enforcement officers, teach the public and become leaders in the equine industry if we are to change in equine welfare. Heart of Phoenix is a POWERFUL advocate for All Horses in Appalachia. Poverty in our region means the need for education and assistance is tremendous, and we work to meet those needs. The conditions we encounter in West Virginia are often shocking, yet with your help, we are changing everything for the better! Our team cares deeply about horses, awareness and education. We care about showing what rescued horses are capable of while we work on the roots of "equine neglect" where a future finds fewer horses in need. This region has more long-term, extreme neglect than is found anywhere else in the nation. Abuse, deprivation from water, food and basic care frequently go on at unspeakable levels where horses are left to suffer for years, for decades. While there are many issues facing horses and advocates working at various issues; our focus here is to rescue those most forgotten: To make sure that they receive the rehab and training they need to become awesome equine partners for adopters: To lead the state in equine education: To make more Good horsemen and women, so fewer horses end up in need and more horses have suitable homes. The horses of this region have a valuable voice thanks to your support of HOP. We hope you continue to listen to the stories of our horses and allow us to continue to change the lives of many more. While we have saved hundreds of lives, there is much work still to do. We are ready to do it! We hope to impact thousands more in the coming years!Because our high quality rehab and standard of care requires a solid financial budget and many hours of volunteer time, we are committed to sound financial management. We will not take in more horses than our funding allows. We intend to serve equines in Appalachia for many years to come.
