Pioneers of the British rock & heavy metal scene, Iron Maiden is unequivocally one the most successful bands in their genre. Founded in 1975, Iron Maiden is a global phenomenon, having performed in over 60 countries to literally millions of fans around the world. For each of their massive world tours in 2008, 2011 and 2016, the band chartered a specially branded aircraft. Nicknamed - Ed Force One - after the band\'s iconic mascot, Eddie, each aircraft sported a design of the album and the corresponding world tour. For their Book of Souls World Tour that started in 2016 and took the band to six continents, the band upgraded to the Queen of the Skies - a Boeing 747-400 - from the Boeing 757s that they used on their 2008 and 2011 world tours. Piloted once again by none other than band frontman and lead singer, Bruce Dickinson in the cockpit, who had been a commercial pilot with the charter airline Astraeus, he had to train to receive the necessary type rating in order to fly the 180-ton jumbo jet. Compared to the Boeing 757s used on the two previous tours, the larger aircraft offered significantly more space for the band and crew, a longer range and a larger cargo area, which also enabled the stage equipment to be loaded and unloaded more quickly. The plane\'s graphics were inspired by the names of title tracks listed in the booklet from the Book of Souls album, which were translated into the Yucatec-Maya language and depicted on the fuselage and tail of the aircraft as hieroglyphics. With nearly 700 Boeing 747-400 aircraft having been produced over the course of its 20-year run from 1989 until 2009, replaced by newer, more efficient twin engine aircraft - the Boeing 777, Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350 - the Boeing 747-400 is a quad engine, wide-body airliner suited for long range flying, and was the bestselling version of the Boeing 747. 13927652 4013150571609 5.9400lbs 4.50 13.25 13.25
