Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: House of Dreams provides shelter and care for abandoned and homeless cats, with the goal of finding them permanent homes or providing them a lifetime home in our facility. We are a free-roam, no-kill, all-volunteer cat shelter located in Portland, Oregon. We are one of the only area shelters with facilities for Feline Leukemia positive (FeLV+) kitties.

Results: Each year, since it's founding in 1999, HoD has consistently found furever homes for 20 - 35 cats. All with no paid staff.

Target demographics: Abandoned, senior, hard-to-adopt and FeLV+ cats.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Adopted out 33 kitties.

Geographic areas served: The Greater Portland Oregon Region.

Programs: Rescue of abandoned cats and kittens from non-members who bring cats to no-kill shelter location. A shelter building houses animals until adoption. Professional fees are for independent veterinarian care food and utilities. House of Dreams is one of the few shelters accepting cats without regard for age or medical condition. In addition, House of Dreams is one of the few shelters accepting cats testing positive for the feline leukemia virus. We have taken steps to help increase our adoption rate, and this is an ongoing program. We have also implemented a program whereby we accept cats from Multnomah County Animal Shelter on a regular basis, in addition to accepting cats from the general public. HoD's annual budget is approximately $80,000.We are all-volunteer and hold several fundraisers a year. We'd like to thank all our volunteers and donors for their support!
