Causes: Arts & Culture, Music, Performing Arts, Singing & Choral Groups

Mission: The purpose of the Chorus is primarily educational, and its goal is to teach children to achieve high artistic standards through choral singing and performance. The secondary purpose of the Chorus is to provide the community with a major choral group. An equally important aspect of the Chorus is the nurturing of personal growth, teamwork, discipline, confidence, and self-control.

Direct beneficiaries per year: more than 100 students and many schools and agencies.

Geographic areas served: musical performance around the world, while based in Houston, Texas.

Programs: The Chorus performs more than 80 concerts each year to audiences that annually exceed 750,000.; The Houston Childrens Chorus is divided into three levels or performing groups:
· The Preparatory Choir, an entry-level choir for children in grades 2 and 3, for which no audition is required;

· The Town Choir, a training choir consisting of children in grades 4 through 8 who pass an audition; and

· The Concert Choir, our highest-level choir, which consists of children who pass a rigorous audition after completing at least one year in the Town Choir and/or demonstrating strong musical ability and readiness to perform at an advanced level.

The Town Choir and Concert Choir rehearse for three hours every Sunday afternoon, from September through early June (except for breaks coinciding with major holidays). The Preparatory Choir rehearses for one hour each week.
