Causes: Arts & Culture, Theater

Mission: Huge improv theater is an artist-led non-profit dedicated to supporting the twin cities improv community through performance and education.

Programs: Performance: we produced or presented 573 performances at huge in 2017, providing 142 artists and directors with paid opportunities to present their work. By keeping our ticket prices accessible ($8-12 per show) and presenting original, new works of a high artistic standard, we successfully attracted approximately 14,339 audience members of diverse ages, backgrounds and levels of income. Through our weekly show, improv a go go, we encouraged experimentation and provided valuable stage time to 60 groups who might not have had access otherwise. In addition, our director of diversity and inclusion added new programming, including a monthly poc jam and poc performance ensemble. Improv is an essential part of the arts ecosystem in minnesota, and we are proud to have hosted the 2017 black & funny improv festival, the 2017 tiny funny women fest, to host important conversations via a two-day conference: our cities, our stages, and to have been selected as a minnesota fringe festival venue every year since we opened in 2010.

education: we served 606 students via our education program in 2017,5% of whom applied for and received scholarships. Huge's core curriculum of four 10-week classes is designed for students working to become artists/performers. We also offered a highly successful weekly drop-in class that develops aspiring teachers as well as teaches students, and held several master classes to teach advanced, specialized skills. We hosted our fifth summer intensive program, this year focused on musical improv, including guest instructors lisa mcqueen and stacey smith, as well as featuring an improvising with congalese music workshop with siama matuzungidi and dallas johnson.

twin cities improv festival (tcif): huge presented the eleventh annual tcif in june and sold out every show of the festival's five-day run. The festival line-up included nationally renowned visiting groups paired with exceptional local groups. Tcif also included two days of workshops from the same nationally-renowned artists who performed at the festival.
