Mission: The Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) protects animals, supports families, and advocates for positive change to create a world where all animals can thrive. We enrich the humanity of our communities by promoting compassion and encouraging people to find joy, comfort and companionship through the love and appreciation of animals. Through a broad range of programs, we touch the lives of more than 60,000 animals annually. HRA is the first end-to-end animal care organization in a major U. S. city, with programs that serve people and animals with many different needs and at all stages of life.

Our comprehensive set of animal care and protection programs include: sheltering and adoptions; Humane Law Enforcement; animal care and control; low-cost spay/neuter and other medical services; behavior and training classes for the public; humane education; The Cat Neighborhood Partnership Program (CatNiPP) , aimed at addressing the needs of the thousands of community cats living in the District and of the people who co-exist with them through Trap, Neuter, and Return; international and regional transfer to provide relief to overburdened animal welfare organizations across the world; and more.
