Mission: The mission of the Idaho Humane Society is to advocate for the welfare and responsible care of animals, protect them from neglect and cruelty, and promote humane education, awareness, and compassion. We believe that because domestic animals are a product of human intervention, we have a special obligation to them in regard to humane treatment and responsible stewardship.

Direct beneficiaries per year: FY2018 the Idaho Humane Society: Provided $1.6 million in discounted and free medical services to shelter pets and the pets of local low-income families in our Veterinary Medical Center. Reunited 1,796 lost pets with their owners. Helped prevent unwanted litters by spaying/neutering more than 8,000 pets – including 1,617 dogs and cats through our SPOT (Stop Pet Over Population Today) clinic. Received 10,618 lost and surrendered pets. Transferred in 1,066 pets for adoption from other shelters, bringing total animals received to: 11,684.Helped financially struggling families by supplying 31,533 lbs of pet food through our Pet Food Pantry to keep pets in their homes. PLUS 12,257 pounds to seniors via Meals on Wheels for Pets program. Nurtured 1,638 special needs animals in foster care. PLUS: Saved 307 cats through our WISKR prison foster program.

Geographic areas served: The Idaho Humane Society is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization and veterinary charity in the state. We are a private 501(c)3 organization that relies on donations to provide programs and services that benefit animals in Idaho.

Programs: The Idaho Humane Society has several life-saving programs in place to help prepare animals for adoption. Those include the IDAPI and WISKR partnerships with the Idaho Department of Correction, which bring shelter animals into correctional facilities for around-the-clock care, training and socialization by inmates. IHS also assists animals from overcrowded shelters in other communities and ensures that every pet in its care receives plenty of mental and physical activity on a daily basis.
