This item was a gift to my husband for our 6th wedding anniversary. Ironwood gave me the impression that this carving board insert was made of iron. It isn't iron, it's plastic. It's still a beautiful piece. We haven't used it to carve anything yet. Hopefully it works as if it were iron.

Love, love, love this company and board. Already had their grooved board for cutting meat. Because I was so happy with the first board I wanted to get a big prep/cutting board for everyday use. Great quality and the color is so beautiful. Easy to care for and use. Highly recommend.
