With a hand drill, this cobalt step bit drilled through black pipe many times faster than regular one-size drill bits, cobalt or otherwise. It was also able to slightly enlarge an existing hole drilled into a steel tube without breaking my arm. Worth the money.

I bought this to drill a nearly one inch hole in a decently thick stainless steel commercial stock pot.I assumed it'd have a hole after a lot of time, drill batteries and bit lube. Surprise! This bit easily ate a nice, clean hole.Nothing makes me quite as happy as quality.

I've bought a few to enlarge holes in fairly thin stainless steel. This was by far the best! Don't get fooled into buying cheaper unfamiliar name versions. The others (HF versions and another one from here) dulled significantly faster and proved to be regretful purchases. This one is good!

I have been using step-drills or “unibits” for over a decade. These are especially useful for metal work and when you need to have the edge finished nicely. This Irwin bit starts easily with or without a pilot hole and cuts very smoothly through most metals and wood.

First time drilling steel so I did my research. I used cutting oil, low RPM, as much downward force as I could muster with my arms, and only drilled for a few seconds at a time so the metal being drilled wouldn't get work hardened. I drilled 10 holes through a steel trailer frame. Worked perfectly. Not sure how many more holes it might be able to handle but it drilled the last hole as well as the first. I had 2 different sizes to drill. I used this bit to get to within 1 step size of the final hole and then used a straight bit for the final dimension.

This product makes it easier to make perfectly round holes in sheet metal safer and more easily. Start with a small pilot hole and then use the step drill to make your final hole size.

This step drill will give you a round hole in sheet metal no matter what. Not like a regular drill bit where the hole may get irregular in sheet metal. Also works very well to enlarge a hole in sheet metal because you can work your way up from a small hole to a much larger hole without the drill catching and tearing a hole in the material.

Had to get this 4 bit to make some 13/16 hole in plastic.I`ve had my 502 Unibit 3 pc. set -- bit numbers -- 1, 2 3 -- for over 20 years, (when it was made by American Tool Companies, Inc. ).I use my Unibit`s occasionally for holes in sheet metal and thin plastics. They always produce a smooth round hole.
