I used this putty to seal a 1/2 crack in plumbing (cast iron drain pipe). The crack was 1/2 wide and about 3 long (it was a big crack!). I took out wire brush and attached it to drill and sanded down the cast iron down to the metal. Atter sanding, I cleaned the surface with isopropyl alcohol. I then mixed and applied the putty to the crack. The putty was even applied to the crack as water was dripping down from the drain pipe. It took a few minutes of manipulation with my fingers to get it to stick to the surface (and to push it in the crack as water dripped. After making sure it was securely applied, I left it overnight and the following day, I came back and it was rock hard, water tight, and no more water leaks. Keep in mind that this was used on a drain pipe (no pressure) and for that application (on cast iron pipe), I give it 5/5 stars so. Will see how long it holds up.
