I thought I was getting my son something new and cool and he would be amazed that mom sussed this out and is ahead of the curve. Instead, I got ‘cool! We used these at SPI!' Which is the sports training place he goes during hockey season. So, I am still cool, just not as avant garde as I hoped :oP. We've gone through many soccer balls because they get kicked down the little ravine behind the rink, or have ended up on the roof of a rink we were visiting, and this is much easier to control trajectories. The kids throw it around and yell ‘yellow', ‘black', or ‘red' and whoever is catching it has to try to catch that color. It's a good warm-up or just a fun way to pass time between games out in the parking lot without having the kids running all over the place. SKLZ makes really good training tools and we've been happy with all the ones we've been able to get our hands on. Will update with durability after next season (season just finished here)

This is a pretty large at almost 8 inches on each segment, with enough room for a hand to grab each one or even the center. I tried playing with my four year old and it was way too tricky for her current level of ability - and even though the foam is somewhat soft it's still hardy enough to bop a person in the face and make them think twice. If you fling this thing really fast I suspect it would be near impossible to catch the called color, but it's definitely something that could be fun in a lot of ways. I don't know if that justifies the near $30 price tag when there might be other options out there, but it's still a pretty nice item! For our purposes, we will likely add it to the camping gear and have one more simple game to play.

This is a great lightweight catch trainer. One utilizes it to improve hand-eye coordination, coordination overall and reaction time.SKLZ delivers again, with another great product for physical readiness.

As soon as we opened this package, our boys have not stopped playing with this. It's easy to use and works great for developing hand/eye coordination by calling out colors to catch. If you spin it, it is more difficult because it can turn very fast.

This is a great tool to work on catching. It's quite challenging to try to catch a certain color so for now my boys are working on just catching any part of it. They do like calling out the color to try to catch but rarely succeed. This is fun because you can play it with multiple people or throw it up on your own. It looks like it would feel hard but it's actually a softer material (but still solid), which is nice for little ones.

Love this - fun activity with the kids. I have a son who wants to be a receiver, so this is a fun drill to use - toss it, call out a color in the air, and see if he can catch this on that particular color - not easy, but it gets easier with repetition. Nice and light, this isn't going to hurt anyone or anything even if it hits someone or something (within reason). Great idea - fun for the whole family and great teaching tool for those looking for better hand/eye coordination.

I got this for my 7 and 9 year old. This could be a little painful for a 7 and 9 year old to toss back and forth if they are throwing it like a spinning ninja star, so I had to revise this that they had to throw it straight up underhanded and call out the color, that has helped a bit with any further injuries, hehehe.Either way, it is really helping them with their agility and hand-eye coordination. Also, under-handed throwing from the center is better because you can realistically catch the color called out.Even I as the grown-up threw this up spinning so fast like a ninja star that it would be impossible for a mere mortal to realistically catch the color called out.Overall a great, easy trainer for young kids, though I'd recommend age 6 and higher.

These toys are hot right now and, frankly, I thought they were complete BS until I played this with my 9yo. We had a blast with this thing. There are a couple ways to play with this. You can call the color before throwing or call the color as the receiver while it is in the air. The directions recommend the former but, while my son and I aren't the most coordinated people, I recommend the latter as the directions proved nearly impossible to follow. This catch trainer is well made and I am actually confident that it works. It really forces you to watch it into your hand. Very good idea and something every youngster can benefit from. Its a little bit pricey for what it is but overall it is worth a go. Recommend.

Took a chance on this item since it was only $29.99 and it was well worth it.The manufacturer has a bunch of cool drills on their website film room that have made our training sessions much more interesting - able to use this with lots of our other training gear.Highly recommend.
