When my son did swim lessons at the YMCA they used these. This is just like they use. Very buoyant and will keep him afloat as long as he's kicking and scooping with his arms. It helps a little but I wouldn't recommend only this if the child doesn't know the basics of swimming. If they're not kicking and scooping this alone won't keep them above water for long.

My granddaughters swim instructor suggested this. You remove a square as they become stronger swimmers. This device pushes them to swim where the puddle jumpers just allows them to float. She is doing amazing

I ordered this swim belt for my granddaughter after she used one at the YMCA for swim lessons. It keeps her buoyant but doesn't interfere with her arms or putting her face in the water like some of the vests. Kemp makes good, safe water products.

Our twins have been in swim lessons at the Y. They use these “bubbles” as part of the program. My daughter swims so well with this product. This product seems to be almost exactly like what is in class (maybe the sash is a little shorter?). I'm excited to take her to the public pool this summer!

You would be surprised how difficult it was to find these belts. They fit well and is easy to remove the pads.
