Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Larimer Humane Society is an independent nonprofit working to further the compassionate, safe, and responsible relationship between animals and people.

Programs: When every other door in an animal's life closes, ours are open. As an open admission shelter, we never turn an animal away. We make sure pets in need receive quality food, vaccinations and medical care, a clean kennel, socialization, walks, playtime, cuddles and training, all delivered with love. Our veterinary services team saves lives, heals sick animals, prevents disease and reduces pet overpopulation. Our veterinary services team now has access to a state-of-the-art clinic with an onsite x-ray machine that allowed them to complete diagnostics more quickly and conduct evaluations that are more thorough. Our larger space also allowed us to expand our partnership with Colorado State University and Fort Range Community College to provide hands-on learning for their veterinary medicine and veterinary technician students. We are also committed to public safety and high quality of life for people and animals. We provide resources to pet owners and uphold the ordinances that keep animals and people in our community safe. And, because of amazing strides in animal welfare in Colorado, we can look beyond the borders of our county and state to help other communities in need. We transfer animals into our shelter from communities that are still struggling with pet overpopulation and are running out of time and space to help animals in need. Additionally, we provide humane education programs for students and adults. We believe that compassion for an animal’s tomorrow begins with education today.
