Mission: The Legal Action Center is the only non-profit law and policy organization in the United States whose sole mission is to fight discrimination against people with histories of addiction, HIV/AIDS, or criminal records, and to advocate for sound public policies in these areas. Over four decades, LAC's legal and policy projects have helped hundreds of thousands of men and women by expanding addiction treatment, fighting stigma and discrimination, and protecting privacy rights crucial to getting and staying in care. We have also broken down barriers that keep millions of people with criminal records from employment, housing, education and other opportunities. Our work has helped to vastly increase alternatives to incarceration and achieve historic sentencing reforms as well as dozens of other policies that promote a public health approach to addiction, HIV/AIDS, and the criminal justice system. (Less)
