Mission: Provide shelter for homeless animals, fund public spay and neuter programs, and fight against animal abuse and neglect for animals in lemhi county. Operate rags & wags thrift store to generate income for our mission.
Programs: The lemhi county humane society (lchs) owns and operates the salmon animal shelter, where we provide high quality sheltering services for homeless companion animals from lemhi county. The lchs also provides funds for public spay and neuter programs in an attempt to decrease the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter. We are also the first line of defense against animal abuse and neglect, and work closely with law enforcement officals to ensure that all animals in lemhi county are treated in a kind and humane manner. Operation of rags & wags thrift store that generates income, provides clothes, household goods and furniture to shoppers at resonable prices. Current year accomplishments include: 1.Spayed and/or neutered 60 dogs through our public coupon program. 2.Spayed and/or neutered 40 cats through our public coupon program. 3.Last year the salmon animal shelter took in 207 dogs and 157 cats. We found homes for 83 dogs while 124 were claimed by their owners. Only 3 of the cats were claimed, while we found homes for 154 cats. All of these animals were spayed or neutered, vaccinated against species specific diseases, given a rabies vaccination, wormed, and chipped. 4.Held two successful fundraisers: the spaghetti dinner and the frybread taco lunch. Together we raised a total of 3,000 at these events. This money was used toward the public spay and neuter coupon program. 5.Worked with law enforcement to seize three dogs and two horses that were at risk. 6.Hired and trained a new shelter manager and new weekend employee at the shelter. 7.Had the stairway to the second floor of the odd fellows building reworked for safety and put in new floor coverings in the stairwell. 8.Installed new flooring in the back portion of rags and wags. 9.Improved the parking lot at the back of rags and wags. 10.Painted and upgraded both bathrooms on the second floor of the odd fellows building.
