This is what you need to pinch a hose shut during repair and maintenance. It looks like it won't damage the hose.

I use these when working on my mowers and replacing the fuel and oil filters. It allows for me to pinch the lines without ruining them or leaking fluids.

I used these to clamp fuel lines and oil lines before removing them. They work perfect for that type of job and hasn't let me down yet in 3 years.
