Causes: Community Service Clubs

Mission: Living art of montana's mission is to use the arts and nature to support healing. We offer art workshops that provide expression and connection for people in western montana who are facing illness and loss.

Programs: In fiscal year ending 6.30.17 living art of montana served 859 individuals in our outreach, exhibits, events and publications and 250 participants in our in-house service workshops. Our workshops are offered free of charge for individuals dealing with cancer, chronic illness and loss. Living art offers respectful opportunities for connection through expression. Our workshops provide creative activities in support of healing and personal growth. Living art creates a nurturing environment where the inherent health enhancing benefits of the creative process and the social benefits of participating in shared group activities support wellness. Living art engages the power of art to discover, explore and share what is most important to us an individuals and ultimately through that process, to heal. A growing body of research demonstrates that a variety of creative engagements (the arts) can postively impact physical, mental and emotional responses, contributing to greater health and wellness. Living art workshop participants report: *decreased anxiety, depression, loneliness and stress *increased sense of connection to others and a sense of being part of a community *increased ability to take positive action and feel productive. Service workshops at the living art studio were facilitated by various artists and staff and included: *25 saturday workshops *multi-sessions workshops (minimum 6 times a year) included: "components in clayx; "wire ribbon embroideryx; "remembrancex; "paper quillingx; "quadracepts: glass designx; "reveal & conceal: maskmaking" and "twisted tiaras. " *cancer, courage and creativity six session workshops offered in the fall and spring. This workshop integrates writing, art, movement and mask making as tools for self-exploration. *"wednesdays 4 wellness" monthly workshops offered july-december outreach workshops included: *"found word poems" at state employee charitable giving campaign kick-off event *"found word poems" at camp-mak-a-dream open house event *"found word poems" at community medical center diva day 5k *"found word poems" at missoula aging services staff training *"what's in your heart? " metal foil tooling at providence st. Patrick hospital heart expo. Outreach exhibits, performances and publications: *"faces of living art: a 22 year mask retrospective" exhibit at the downtown dance collective *living art fall newsletter reached over 500 individuals *living art facebook page - 149 new likes
