Mission: Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.
Results: From our founding in May, 2009 we have saved over 21,500 dogs and cats!
Target demographics: homeless, neglected and abandoned animals find loving forever homes, educate pet owners on responsible pet parenting (including the importance of spay/neuter, obedience training and good nutrition), cultivate the next generation of animal rescuers/advocates and provide an outstanding volunteer experience to our community.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 2,497 dogs and cats who found loving forever homes – and all the adoptive families who now share their love. We rescue animals from high kill shelters in the rural South and are part of the national response to natural disaster evacuations. Our amazing volunteers in the DC metro area are fulfilled not just by what we accomplish but by the incredible community we have become.
Geographic areas served: the Washington, DC Metro Area, but our volunteer-powered animal rescue serves animals as far west as Texas and as far south as Puerto Rico. We also help animals internationally where we are able.
Programs: Our foster team and matchmaking programs help our animals get ready for adoption and help our adopters find, adopt, and integrate their new dog/cat into their homes. We also have low cost spay/neuter days and vaccine clinics for underserved communities as well as activities designed to educate and cultivate the next generation of animal advocates/rescuers.
