Mission: Background and history:lund's mission is to help children thrive by empowering families by breaking cycles of poverty, addiction and abuse. Lund offers hope and opportunity to families through education, treatment, family support and adoption. Founded in 1890, as a maternity home for unwed mothers, lund has evolved to meet community human service needs in vermont. Our name too has evolved from the "home for friendless women" to the "elizabeth lund home" and more recently "lund". Lund is the largest and oldest private non-profit adoption agency in vermont; having finalized more than 9,000 adoptions since 1890.Lund has been for many years the only comprehensive, therapeutic residential treatment program in the state of vermont for women who are pregnant and parenting, where they are not separated from their young children. Programs: Lund provides comprehensive, gender-specific residential and outpatient treatment to families affected by substance abuse disorders and mental health issues. Through lund's residential treatment program 79 mothers and 90 children engaged in gender-specific, family-centered substance abuse and mental health treatment. Additionally, 168 mothers and family members benefited from sa & mh treatment in the community. 100% of babies born at lund were free of illicit substances, and were of normal gestation period and birth weight.

lund provides a continuum of family support and education services. The early childhood education program stimulates crucial early brain development and promotes school readiness. The new horizons educational program is a state approved education program for pregnant or parenting young women. Lunds family support services increase parents capacity to provide for their children, foster social and emotional competence and promote healthy relationships. Lund's early childhood education program ensured 76 children enjoyed high quality early education and care. While they were enrolled, their families were connected to needed resources and services in the community. Our early childhood program serves a population with a high level of needs: 84% live in poverty and are at risk of abuse, neglect and school failure; 71% live in single, female-headed families; and 6% live in english language learner families. Our new horizons education program provided high school completion and postsecondary readiness to 48 pregnant and parenting teens and young women. In new horizons, 7 culminated their high school careers, receiving their high school diploma; 16 lower grade level mothers transitioned successfully back to their sending schools or other educational programs; and 85% of the young mothers made academic progress during the year. 118 families benefited from family education and parenting skill development in their home and in lund's residential facility. 214 parents raising 240 children living in poverty received reach up case management and financial assistance, seeking to increase their self-sufficiency through work placement, vocational training and education. Of these, 88 parents attained paid employment during the fiscal year; 111 engaged in job training; and 43 parents transitioned from reach up due to paid employment. 11 mothers and their 11 children benefited from transitional housing and programming seeking to prepare families for independent living and build their self-sufficiency. 236 incarcerated mothers received parenting support services; 174 children of incarcerated women and their caretakers in the community received case management ensuring their connection to resources and services. 963 individuals were educated on teen pregnancy and the importance of prevention in 20 schools and community organizations around the state.

lund's adoption program finalized adoptions for 197 children, including 169 children through project family which finds permanent homes for children in state custody living in foster care or residential environments. Lund's adoption program is committed to finding children permanency in the least possible time. 62% of project family adoptions were finalized in under 24 months from when the child enters state custody. The average age of children entering state custody is 4.5 years. Other results of the adoption program at lund were: 23 infants were adopted into permanent families. Lund also provided options counseling to 81 birth mothers and conducted 62 home studies. 77 families benefited from lifelong post-permanence services statewide. 1,230 individuals benefited from search and reunion services.
