I was using old barn wood of various sizes to build a gaming table and knew I'd need a planer to get everything to the same thickness for the various pieces such as the frame, supports and legs. This planer was the perfect tool to do that. It came with the stand, removable input and output shelves, and an extra set of blades. While the planer itself comes fully assembled, the stand does not. It is easy to assemble and took me a casual 30 minutes to do that. Aligning the bolt holes between the stand and planer was tricky but eventually no issues there. Quality of parts is excellent all-around, and the fully assembled planer and stand moves easily on my concrete shop floor. NOTE: the planer itself weighs 92 pounds, so you may need a second person to lift it up onto the stand. If so, the planer has two nicely designed handles to assist. The tool has two speeds for rough planing and finish planing. With new blades, the rough planing was more then good enough for my use, and the finish planing made the wood (elm and ash) look like it had a glass-like finish, so good performance there. The tool will handle up to 6-inch thick wood and I used it for some 3-1/2 inch thick pieces with no problems at all. Adjusting the height of the cutting blades is easily done with the side wheel; two different gauges let you set the height and amount of cut. I generally was cutting no more than 1/16 inch at a time and the gauge is marked in 32nds. This tool will handle up to 13 inch wide wood. I put about 40 feet of 8-10 inch wide wood through (not including up to four additional passes per board) with no issues. I did try to plane some small pieces (3-inch wide, 5-inch long and 1/4 inch thick), and the planer left some rippling due to their small size and the quick feed speed, so a potential limitation there. The planer exhaust is centrally located at the rear near the top, and when connected to a vacuum hose the hose will sometimes interfere with the exiting wood, so watch for that. The planer and vacuum combo is quite noisy, so ear protection is highly recommended. The planer pulls the wood through nicely and quickly, so watch your hands. The planer comes with a Torx t-wrench tool (in a storage slot on top) that is used to disassemble anything on the planer (including blade replacement). A nice touch. Finally, I'd recommend putting some paste wax on the extension shelves and inside the planer to help the wood along; that made a big difference after the first 40 feet or so of wood throughput.Overall an excellent tool that should last me through many projects.

I have been planning 10 year old fence boards, just pulling off the tops of the ridges that have formed on the 10 year old cedarAwesome patterns ... The machine works easily and is very compact and easily adjusted depthsyou will need to vent the shavings trust me!! This unit is well worth the money. I love it. Wax the base deck and table attachments help with easy glide of the material. Dewalt got this really right.

I mostly do intersia on the scroll saw and this planar can really get some thin sheets planed down. You have to be careful of grain direction or the sheets will come apart and you'll be picking pieces out of it for hours. All in all, better than my lunchbox and can tune most of the snipe out of it.

Love my planner. Simply the best for a small shop. I got it with the table (which takes some time to assemble) but makes life so much easier when space is limited. The planner is very easy to use and very accurate. You can plug in a vac shop directly for dust control. Recommended.

This is a good quality tool. But the seller is selling products that have been sitting in a warehouse for over 10 years. The rollers are oxidized to the point that they will not pull boards through the unit.

As an amateur woodworker, I've been making do without a planer or jointer for some time. Finally broke down and got this Dewalt planer and coupled it with a Wen 8 jointer. Wow! Not sure why I didn't do this a long time ago. What a pleasure to work with straight, flat wood for a change! The Dewalt planer is a beast. Easy to set up and seems quite accurate. Like the depthness stop. Allows you to set a minimum depth between 1/4 and 1 1/4 inches. Easy way to ensure multiple boards are all the same dimension. My next project will be to build a mobile cart for the two tools to live on.

Had to adjust table but after that it works great! It was leaving a little dip due to being un level but an easy fix. Wood comes out so smooth! Some pieces need a few passes but overall very impressed. Make sure you wear earplugs! Between vacuum and planer it's kinda loud.

I have used this planer several times now and all I can say is it works perfect. The only downside is the noise

I don't have any real experience with a thickness plainer but saw so many woodworkers using these things i thought I'd give it a try. I have only ran some construction 2x4s through it so far, but i was super excited at the result. The only snipe i saw was when i was being aggressive with the thickness of the cut. With removing only either 1/32 or 1/16 i saw no snipe. Just for fun i'm going to take a couple cheap construction grade 2x4s and plane them down to make a block cutting board just for fun. The, along with mettle 6” jointer, is going to get a ton of use over the next year.

What an incredible tool this is. Woodworkers in the market for a planer should not even consider any other machine. I upgraded to this after many years of struggling with a complete dud of a machine from the orange tool brand and I couldn't be happier. My old machine gave me poor results in nearly every way possible. It lacked power so that when planing hardwoods I could often take no more than a 64th of an inch at a time. I would waste an incredible amount of time standing at the planer dimensioning stock. It was often out of parallel and difficult to adjust. The knives barely lasted a few board feet of hardwood before becoming noticeably dull. Chips often got clogged under the knives and I would have to stop to remove and clean them. For many years I thought these problems were common to all portable style planers, but the Dewalt has none of these issues. I can plane double or even three times as much in a single pass, drastically reducing the amount of time I spend dimensioning lumber. The two speed cutterhead is fantastic. It allows me to quickly bring down stock to proper thickness and then get a superb finish with the slow speed. I find most of the criticisms of this product are not valid. Noise levels are not bad at all. It's noticeably quieter than my last machine. The knives also stay sharp much longer. I've planed many board feet of maple without rotating the knives and there has been no noticeable dropoff in performance. That sort of thing would have ruined a set of knives on my old planer. Even moderately figured wood and reversing grain don't cause this machine many problems. And folks really need to stop complaining about snipe or a nick on their blades. All planers snipe, yet on the Dewalt it is about as minimal as it gets. You just have to plan for it and feed stock through continuously with a little waste on either end. As for nicks, these sand out so easily I will never understand why people complain about it. Just sand your projects folks! And buy the Dewalt planer!

Finish as smooth as sanding. Noise level is equivalent to other 12” planers.

Verry nice planer easy to use although it's sold as a portable this comes in at 90 pounds making it a little less than portable but I have it mounted to a stand on wheels to make moving it around the shop easy ohh yeah beware the chips shoot out a great distance

Have used for poplar maple and a little oak, blade got knocked but still works. Overall, it's a good value, just haven't figured out snipe with factory in feed and out feed tables. But it works well and have zero regrets with purchase
