I have owned a good number of planets both portable and cabinet and this one ranks near the top. It is built very well and simple to use. No machine is perfect and there are a couple nit picked things but none of them impact the performance.I ran a few board feet through it and on high speed there was little or no snipe and at low speed I can see this is going to cut down on sanding time. The word was very smooth and when I put the calipers of the board the thinness was almost perfect along the length of the board. No planer is silent when operating, the noise produced by this planer was normal for this type of machine. I am looking forward to running a few hundred board feet and see how things go.I would recommend this machine to theirs without hesitation.

This thing is a beast. We ran several walnut and maple pieces thru it for counter tops. Excellent power and smooth cuts. Came out fantastic. Then we ran some rough cut poplar.. also ran very nicely. Runs pine thru like buttah! Very pleased! I ordered the stand also. Its due in today. This thing is a beast it needs the stand to keep it stable.

IMHO this is the best small shop planer you can get. Very little set up needed. It works well right out of the box. It weighs a lot so get the Dewalt mobile stand designed to go with the planer to make it easy to move around your shop. It's very stable as well.

I use this planer daily for my cutting board business. Within about 2 weeks I started to experience some belt squeaking noise. Thought it might have gotten some sawdust in it or it wasn't aligned properly from the factory. I inspected it and didn't see either issue. I used the old fashion bar soap trick that you would use on a cars serpentine belt and now several weeks later its been quiet. Also the rollers that guide the wood through need to be cleaned regularly or you will get slippage when they get dirty. Also waxing the planer surface really helps with reducing snipe and smooth cutting. Other then those minor issues this is a fantastic planer. It gets you down to about 120 grit smoothness. The stock blades last surprisingly long considering I run mostly hardwood and use it daily. Glad I spent the extra money vs a cheap 2 blade planer.

My last Makita planer (2 blade) lasted 30 years. This 3 blade model works great - it's nice that is included a dust chute and carrying handles. I put it on a cart with locking wheels.

I wanted a supplemental planer for doing smaller detailed jobs in my shop. Based on the features listed by DeWalt a decided to purchase this unit. It provides silky smooth, accurate cuts right out of the box. The advanced features of the turret stop is nice for doing repetitive thick material. Highly recommend this planer. Shaving extraction fan is a terrific feature, be aware that with larger woodworking tools eye and hearing protection is a must.

OMG... this thing works great. Heavy? Yes. Built well. Designed well. I love this thing. Warning,... plane your boards somewhere where its ok to have chips flying around. Or better yet... make yourself a chip catcher. This thing blows the chips out on its own. No need to have a vacuum attached. And the smoothness of the end product is excellent. Pricey? Maybe, but you get what you pay for.

Works perfectly. I'm not a professional wood worker by any means. But this planer has worked flawlessly for my needs. I make light passes like no more than 1/32 at a time and only switch speeds while it's running. I have a cheap shop fox dust collector hooked up which helps because it throws chips pretty far without it. I do get significant sniping. Haven't figured out a way to avoid it. But I plan accordingly and cut the last 4 inches off each end. I've used it with soft pine, poplar, walnut, birch and even took a little off a 12 inch piece of birch plywood when I was messing around with it. The infeed and out feed shelves aren't perfectly flat but it's stamped metal so i can't expect perfection. It's not like this is a $6k industrial machine. I'm completely satisfied with it.

It's a breeze to set up and use. Yes it's heavy, 80 pounds or so and I had no help to mount it on the stand. So being innovative I have an elevating cart. Placed the planer on the card and I just jacked it level and slid the planer across. Calibration was easy with a snap of similar wood stock. It's worth the price.

Definitely use this thing outside. I practiced on several small boards and had shavings covering half of my driveway... lol. looked like snow. So far so good. Runs smooth and after cutting a dozen boards to edge them and planed to thickness they were repeatable and consistent...

This is a great planer for softwoods. Every tool has its place I build custom cabinets and furniture for a living. A lot of my products use hardwood and I was hopeful that this machine would suit my needs it did not. It hates hardwood just taking off a 1/32 or 1/16 it trips the neutral safety switch. I have replaced 3 and now it doesn't work at all. If you plan on running Pine, Cedar, Hemlock or Hardwood occasionally being very careful. This is a great option if you need something more heavy duty and you are running hardwood all the time. I advise you too find a heavier duty planer. I plan on buying a Grizzly 15 heavy duty myself. I hope this helps some people avoid the mistake I made and make a good purchase. Along with skills tools for us contractors and craftsman are essential too our business and will determine how successfully a job is executed.
