I like the way this is laid out. There is a state map with the trail marked on the map. The trails are in order by area. The information is good. I was debating buying a book when there are so many blogs and other information for free. I found better details in this book then on many blogs posting about different hikes. The most important to me is the location, and distance of each trail. The one thing that is not well labeled is what trails are dog friendly. I ordered the dog trail book by the same publishers. I chose this book because it's easier then buying books for every area in Utah that we will be traveling. I wanted more than just National parks as well. If you want just one book that list the best trails then get this.

Each hike lists round trip mikes, hiking time, elevation gain, difficulty, what season to hike, the USGS Map the hike is on, who to contact as well as a description of the hike and what one will see plus a small topographic map showing the route.

We just returned from Utah and thus book was invaluable. We completed many of the hikes and the descriptions were spot-on. Some of the easy hikes, however, seemed more like 34;moderate34; to us!! Good information and good value.

Having hiked and seen most of the 'big' attractions in Utah, we are constantly on the lookout for less traveled trails. This guide provided information on several hikes we enjoyed without seeing another soul. Highly recommended, as are most Mountaineer books.

I have live in Utah my entire life and have hiked and enjoyed this most diverse beautiful State in the nation. I am a retired Utah State Park Ranger and Manager that has lived and worked in eight different park areas through out this State and have hiked on many of the trails highlighted in Julie's book. During my now 15 years of retirement in Torrey, Utah, I have hiked well over 2,000 miles in this world class hiking area called Southern Utah. Not really knowing Julie that well, I was surprised that she was a writer. I purchased the book and found it to be a 34;must have34; for anyone who enjoys the outdoor experience in this incredible State. It is an excellent source of information.

The good: - All you need to get you some amazing experiences in Utah, great selection of hikes - The vast majority of the hikes in the book have the right descriptions, right trail lengths and details The only 34;bad34;: - A few of the hikes have the wrong descriptions with details that are off so don't be stupid and buy add'l detailed trail maps, especially for the longer 10 mile hikes.

I was so excited to get this book into my hands. Julie's love of Utah and deep knowledge of the backcountry shines through. If you are looking for a hidden lake, a place to see wildflowers (and when), waterfalls, this is a great resource. My personal favorite is Virgin River Narrows. Highly recommend this book!

Found this book of 100 classic hikes to be very easy to understand, covering a wide range of terrain and environments for all skill levels. With the expectation of Mountaineers Books, there are several keys for finding the hike for you. The guide includes gorgeous photos from each hike, maps and detailed directions. In my opinion, this is a must have for hikes encompassing the entire state and diverse ecosystems.
