Well written, insightful account of Doug Coombs' life and times, and indeed the history of 'extreme' skiing. A must read for anyone with a love of the sport.

I absolutely loved the adventure Rob Cocuzzo took his readers on by writing this book. It was spellbinding and I hated to put it down. Doug Coombs comes to life in these pages and the author's tenacity to ski in the places were Doug performed such amazing feats makes this story come alive. You feel like you're there on the slopes with Doug and Rob. This is an adventure biography but most of all it is the triumph of the human spirit that echoes through the life and death of Doug Coombs. Rob Cocuzzo is an excellent author and I hope he will provide us with more of his writing

If you are a skier/snowboarder or just someone who can appreciate a good adventure, buy this book. Rob pulls off the difficult task of sharing his personal evolution as a skier with the larger than life accomplishments of a ski legend, Doug Coombs. The author is humble in his own accomplishments, which is much appreciated in a community full of 34;best skiers on the mountain34;. We can all relate to the highs and lows that come with skiing steeper lines or just the adversity we face in life when you set your mind to accomplish a difficult task. This is a true page turner. Congrats, Rob, and looking forward to reading about your next adventure.

This was a fantastic book about a truly amazing adventurer. It is well written and very hard to put down. As an avid skier who has skied in many of the locations mentioned in the book, I felt personally connected to the book and ultimately Doug Coombs. Great book, highly recommend it, especially if you're an outdoor enthusiast! RIP DC

A great read. The book deftly blends Cocuzzo's quest to enter the world Coombs occupied, with a nice collection of intimate stories about Doug, from his family and skiers who knew him. An inspiring story, well told.

An inspirational awakening of your own inner spirit is one of the treasures Rob Cocuzzo bestows upon the reader of “Tracking the Wild Coomba.” While gracefully weaving in the details of his own experiences during the course of tracking and unraveling those of Doug Coombs, the author ignites the reader’s own passion for adventure. Whether you’re young or old, active or inactive, a skier or non-skier, this book will spark your desire to try something new, get back to something you once loved, challenge yourself, get outside of your comfort zone, experience the beauty of someplace wild, appreciate the beauty where you are now and live your life joyfully. Tracking the Wild Coomba was hard to put down and the good vibes remain with you long after you’ve turned the final page.

I was fortunate to have known Doug during his formative years in Jackson Hole as a Skier/Adventurer and as a fellow Father. Rob tells his story of how an 34;Ordinary34; individual followed his passion and dreams and became 34;Extraordinary34; in the process without that being the focus. A true inspiration and tribute to an Amazing individual who's inner child was always present. In fact we called him the 34;Fun Captain34;. He shared his passion and enthusiasm with all and it was infectious. Through Rob's efforts to capture who Doug really was, you will walk away inspired, amazed and feel as though you knew Doug. It may also make you stop and think about are you achieving your Dreams and Passion. A must read for anyone who ever thought, 34;this is how I want to pursue Life's journey34;!

I loved this book, and I'm probably unique in that I didn't know that that much about Doug Coombs before reading this story. What a fantastic story to both live and writefollowing in the tracks of your hero. Thankfully Rob has both the skiing chops and and journalistic chops to pull this off. It's a great biography of Coombs, and it's not a pure biography in that the writer inserts himself in the story, but I think it works very well in this book. Rob appears in the story just enough to give it a personal perspective, which I think helps all of us mortal skiers understand how much of a badass Doug Coombs was. Rob's first-person perspective is never too much, just to put us in his ski boots and have some first-hand knowledge of what the skiing feels like. A good read for anyone who wants to know more about Doug Coombs, or know more about ski mountaineering, or just read a good mountain story.

I loved the way he wrote this book, switching back and forth between Doug's story and Robert's. The first chapter has a number of editorial mistakes that need to be corrected, which almost made me not read the book. However, starting with the second chapter, those errors were gone and the book flowed smoothly. It's full of interesting information that was well-researched. Robert unfolds the story gradually so that the reader stays interested and excited as the book progresses. I'm buying several more copies to give to my skiing buddies with the instructions to 34;read and pass on!34; Loved the book! Thank you, Robert.

I'm not a skier. I'm also not a 34;product reviewer34;. This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I had such an incredible emotional reaction to it, I had to write a note. The authors ability to tell the story of who Doug Coombs was as a person, the passion he had for life, and the inspiration he was to so many people - was incredible. That mixed in with the authors own personal journey as he pulled together this story, and the ability for him to convey how, years after his tragic accident, Coombs was literally changing the way he himself saw the world, left me wanting more every time I put the book down. Just an incredible read start to finish, highly suggest it, even for the non skier.

Tracking the Wild Coomba is a wonderful story of the life of free skiing legend Doug Coombs. As an alpine enthusiast, understanding Doug's path from a small recreational resort in Massachusetts to the winter landscapes of of Wyoming, Alaska, and La Grave, France was lively and enriching and stands as a testament to all those who have sought adventure and camaraderie in the mountains. Equally compelling is Rob's own personal journey which is tightly woven into the fabric of the narrative as he follows is heart to the connect with the people and places that Coomb's touched throughout his vivid life. A 5 star book that should be a positive addition to any skier or mountaineer's library.
