I love heavyweight, largely-cotton sweatshirts; wear 'em all the time. The best, of course, are Arborwear and Just Sweatshirts -- but they're so good they cost an arm and a leg. These, at under $30, are easily the best, inexpensive alternatives, and they don't come up that short: thick, warm, cozy -- they can take a washing -- or a licking -- and keep on ticking. I have about half a dozen, given their color choices. Now, the caveats: They run large, and don't really shrink much, so size down if you're at all unsure; the colors do fade over time, with washing; and the red, in particular, is more orange than red -- and gets moreso every wash.Try one; you'll like it!
