Noticed the chemical smell many other reviews document. Washed several times, alternately drying with lots of dryer sheets. It did take time to get rid of the smell but this was not unexpected. The blanket it good quality, not scratchy. Warm, does its job.

I've washed this several times with things like wool safe detergent, Dawn dish detergent, and vinegar. The smell has faded but isn't gone enough where I'd be happy to use it while camping. But, in an emergency I'd certainly not baulk at the smell.Don't run this in the dryer. Wash with warm water on delicates setting. Dawn dish soap made the biggest dent to the smell... add enough to get a bit sudsy. Vinegar is a good option as the last wash before use because it acts as a softener.I'll be buying something more expensive for camping use and putting this one in my SUV (unless it smells too much in there)

This blanket is perfect for camping and campfires. Much bigger, heavier, and warmer than I expected. Smells like typical wool blankets. Seems a little softer than the military-issued ones. Nice to have a good ugly blanket in the trunk for moving heavy objects and protecting my leather seats from sharp-cornered objects.

I washed it as soon as I got it. Followed instructions. Lint trap wasn't as bad as I expected according to other reviews but edges didn't stay together and seem like it will come apart afyer a few uses. Will leave updated review after I use it. Got this to wrap in poncho as a back up to sleeping bag. So not totally disappointed.

Good blankets, but the chemical smell due to being fire retardent takes a bit of effort to deal with.

So anyone who's ever been in the military, especially during basic training in winter time will appreciate these blankets. Now the sewing around the edges is not quite military grade but I assume will hold. As some people have described yes these wool blankets are smelly. That is the nature of wool blankets especially the lesser quality wool blankets. There is a reason why the military uses lesser quality wool blankets. They are far more durable, repel water better and are extremely fire resistant. If you take one of these brand new wool blankets and you wash it in the delicate cycle of your washer with a good perfume detergent and a treatment of fabric softener it will greatly improve the material and eliminate most of the smell. Though it will not completely eliminate the smell with time the smell goes away. You have to realize these blankets were made to last a very long time. They are Made in India. On a scale of 1 to 10 as far as quality durability and manufacturer I give these an eight. The reason I gave an eighth is due to the stitching around the edges and the fact that it's not 100 wool. Now if you want softer and odorless wool realize that you are going to pay high dollar. That is not the case with these blankets. In my opinion these are more MIL-SPEC blankets than anything else. Would I buy these blankets again? Absolutely these are tough blankets that will last a very long time and will perform very well under the harshest conditions and harshest treatment. I would definitely recommend them for camping, but not necessarily backpacking due to the weight. Another great use for these blankets is for overlanders, they can handle abuse.

These are what I thought they'd be. Note: The first time you wash them, they will shed a lot. Use cold wash/cold rinse. Dry them on very low or no heat -- check your lint filter frequently!

The blanket did its job and kept me warm and dry while camping. There is a slight odor reminiscent of a thrift store when first opened, but it goes away quickly.

If you're looking for a durable, warm blanket to bring camping or throw in the back of your vehicle, look no further. This thing gets the job done. Although if you're looking for something more soft/plush for indoor use, you may want to look elsewhere. This blanket is great for what it does, but they market it as 'Military-Style' because it's moreso a tool than a luxury/comfort item. I took this blanket out for a camping trip around late-spring in the NE United States. As always, I ended up forgetting at least one important item: this time it was the sleeping bag. To make things even more interesting, the beautifully sunny forecast turned out to be not entirely accurate, and we were treated to a Severe Thunderstorm / Tornado Warning for most of the evening into the night; and apparently, this downpour was slightly beyond the water-resistance of my tent, treating me to a night of a continuous light sprinkling of water. Despite this, I stayed warm and dry throughout the night due to this blanket. The blanket was large enough for me to fold it--putting two layers below myself and one above to protect from the wet tent-floor and the sprinkling from above--and I was still covered from head to toe. None of the water managed to soak up through the layers below me, and while I could feel the force of the water drops hitting the blanket above me, none of the wet seeped through to me underneath. This blanket serves all the purposes it claims to, is rugged and durable enough to take a beating, andto top it all off it's only $25.Pros:- Lightweight (Insofar as can be expected of Wool)- Water Resistant- Flame Cinder resistant- Large size relative to weightCons:- Sleight fuel-smell on Blanket straight out of packaging (Almost didn't include this, see why below)- Somewhat more difficult to fold/compress down for a backpack than lighter blankets might be. So a lot of reviewers here have made commentary regarding the smell this blanket has when you first take it out of its packaging. While there is definitely a scent of something resembling fuel/gasoline. I believe the smell is a combination of some of the natural odors of the oils in the wool, so potentially the strength of the smell will vary from blanket to blanket. Personally I didn't really notice it unless I was intentionally getting up close and sniffing the blanket. Obviously, everyone has different tolerances and sensitivities for scent so your mileage may vary; but IMO, it's a negligible issue. Additionally, after taking the Blanket out for a single camping trip--without even washing the blanket beforehand--whatever strong chemical smell it had initially is gone.

Super smelly. Expect to spend a lot of time cleaning and using products to get the smell off. Other than that it is a great product for warmth as well as a table topper for gaming.

I always wanted another Wool Blanket, Military Style. What caught my eye was the size of it, 66” x 90” !! I'm six foot two inches, equaling 74 inches and that extra 16 inches would cover all the way down to my toes, especially when I'm in my recliner. We keep our house cool all year long. The weight of it is so light too. It's laying right beside me right now, ready for me to crab.
