I would probably recommend the DeBeer Clincher over this, but it worked for our pickup games.

These things are ROCK hard. They are NOT mushballs. Perhaps they'll soften somewhat with use, but fielding these with bare hands would be really painful.

Will get soft after a few dozen hits. But its a great training tool for staying inside the ball. Quality Leather

Great for pick up games. No excuses, all you need is a bat and this ball.

I use it for working out and I really needed a super hard 16 - If you want to hard buy this ball.

After one short game this ball softens up to allow barehanded play, just like the old ones. But, it was scary hard out of the box and didn't soften by bouncing on the ground like a basketball. But, a 30 oz bat takes the edge off it very well.

After about 3 months of play in SW Florida, this ball has maintained it's orgional shape with little loss in firmness. Compared to the Clincher, it's a little harder to catch since it's somewhat firmer and has a smother skin surface. Otherwise it's a great hitting ball and will buy another just for it's durability.

This ball is nicely made. It is rock hard when it is new but from what I understand they soften up with use. It is hard to catch when it is new because it can hurt the hands of a child and even after a while will hurt my hands. I have been throwing it against the ground to try to speed up the wear on this ball so that it can get soft enough to enjoy.
