I bought these several months ago, and I've successfully used them in a variety of dishes, as well as toppings for Pho, grilled salmon, etc. Although I agree that they would taste better with a small amount of salt, the lack of salt helps me achieve a low sodium diet. One word about shelf life - these dried shallots last a lot longer than 4 weeks on a shelf after opening. I used mine for about four months with good results. After that, the small amount that was left didn't smell so good, so I tossed it.
