Definitely no bigger than 20galls .I bought the filter for the wrong reason.I liked the idea of it.slim , unusual , nothing quite like it, four little filters, pump on the inside of the water uptake tube . It works quite nicely. But for a serious filter get the AquaClear

I love this my tank is always clean and clear. I change them every 2 weeks with weekly water changes.
