Programs: Awareness and education: Mattie Miracle is committed to educating and enhancing awareness about the psychological and social impact of a childhood cancer diagnosis on the child and family. We sponsor an annual childhood cancer awareness walk; conduct sessions for medical personnel regarding the impact of cancer on the entire family system; maintain an on-line resource center that offers materials and links to information regarding childhood cancers; host special day/holiday-themed activities for children in a hospital setting, coordinate with hospital staff (child life and art therapists) and provide access to informational resources for families attending these events. Advocacy: Mattie Miracle actively advocates for greater attention, focus and funding for psychosocial research and access to optimal psychosocial support to assist children with cancer and their families. We meet regularly with members of congress and their offices and work with other associations and groups who share our commitment and passion for supporting children with cancer. Psychosocial support: Mattie Miracle works closely with families who are in crisis, from day of diagnosis through treatment , survivorship, or end of life, and bereavement. We endow two child life program funds, which pay the salaries of child life professionals. In addition, we run free snack and item carts at hospitals to help meet the daily needs of families caring for a child with cancer.
