I love MD products and have always had the best of luck with all of their toys and puzzles. This puzzle was a little different. The quality was great, but the 34;exciting34; element was missing for our family. For our younger child, age 3, she wasn't really paying attention to the numbers, rather she was just using trial and error to fit the pieces together. I guess this isn't the biggest of deals because maybe you want to be there with your kid when they're doing a puzzle, but for me I LOVE when they can do a puzzle on their own and feel like they're learning without me being there. I can see this puzzle being a good teaching tool in a classroom. What I wish MD would do, or any puzzle maker, would be to make the shapes/objects individual puzzle pieces to match to the numbers. Kind of like a peg puzzle. For example, you have the number 10 on a board/puzzle piece- then the child needs to find all 10 bananas to put on there. I feel like this would give them a better hands on idea of numbers and really give them a feel for the amount instead of it being more abstract as this puzzle is.

These number puzzles have been such a great busy bag-type activity for both my three-year-old and my five-year-old. They love counting the items and finding the right number and then putting each puzzle in order from least to greatest. My five-year-old has begun recognizing sets (1-6 and 9) easily since really playing with these puzzles. The fact that they are wood also means they are incredibly durable which is great since I have a one-year-old and two-year-old as well! There really isn't anything negative that I can say about these except maybe that the tray they come in has no lid to it so it was getting spilled a lot by the younger two kiddos. That was easily solved, though by a trip to the dollar store for a plastic case with a securely fitting lid. I would recommend these puzzles to anybody with younger kids learning not only to count (with one-to-one correspondence) but also with kids learning to recognize their numbers. It goes up to 20 so anyone up to 4 years old can really get the most out of it. Again, my five-year-old is getting something out of it too but she is a little past this point in her learning.

Great concept as it is hard to find number matching up to 20 but when I opened it there was a really strong smell. I let it air out but that hasn't helped much. When my daughter uses it her hands end up smelling. Not sure what they used but I'm a bit concerned it's toxic. It smells like it is anyways. I probably won't let her use it much.

My 6 year old challenged student could concentrate for some of this activity. Counting the little dots is not as engaging as counting objects that they have to pick up and put somewhere.

We have bought many Melissa Doug products. This is the worst. The $1 ABC puzzles pieces from Target are better than these. I was surprised when I opened to find that pieces came with wood chipping off..the 15 label is peeling off..the pieces don't stay interlocked..higher number pics are hard for little ones to count bc they are not in rows.

They work ok, but kids of course don't want to learn. They want to play.

My husband thought I was nuts when I ordered these for our 25 month old grandson. I can happily report at 31 months he can count to 20 and recognize all his numbers up to 30, I am positive these puzzle pieces helped. He loves the bright colors and has a blast counting each pieces unique pictures. Would recommend this for anyone who loves learning toys for their child. An added bonus is the clear plastic cover that slides onto the wooden storage box, keeps all the pieces from flying out should little hands reach the box before you do.

I bought for my son who is little over 2.5 yrs. he already knows numbers 1-100 and knows some counting. I want to make sure his fundamentals are good. It is a great puzzle to learn counting. I liked pieces from 1-10 and their design. For pieces 11-20, I think puzzle pieces should have bigger like double the size in length and width. Kids need space to count when there are too many items.
