Mission: Founded nearly a century ago, through education, training, research, and vision enhancement, Miami Lighthouse provides hope, confidence, and independence to the blind community. As the oldest and largest private agency in Florida, our innovative programs for people of all ages promote self-sufficiency and independent living. We offer unique educational programs for children and adults in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools: pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade and adult basic education and ESL classes. Programs for visually impaired clients include comprehensive vision rehabilitation, vocational and social services, computer and technology training, life enrichment classes such as music and art, and low vision assessments and adaptive aids through our Solutions Center. Comprehensive eye exams and glasses are provided at no cost for low-income children statewide using five mobile eye care units and through our network of 1,100 affiliated optometrists.  (Less)
