Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs

Mission: The Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association works to establish and maintain safe, quality scholastic cycling programs. The Association is responsible for establishing a program that will:- Provide support to schools and organizations wishing to establish scholastic cycling clubs and teams. - Develop and maintain an interscholastic competition series to promote the sport of cycling and allow kids to build fitness and compete in a healthy, outdoor environment. - Promote the value of cycling to our youth and community as a mode of transportation and as a lifelong sport.

Results: MiSCA started in 2010 as a dream and a single race. It grew quite slowly, reaching only 100 average riders per race in 2016.The 2017 year saw our first big push to promote our clubs and teams throughout the year, taking on a series title sponsor and thinking big about our future. It paid off, averaging nearly 200 riders per race. In 2018, we implemented a coach certification program, with clinics and structure for coaches. Additionally, we transitioned into a league model and brought on a part-time League Director. The results were awesome - our first series of 6 youth-only races, and while 3 events were outside of our core population area, we averaged more than 250 riders per race, nearly reaching 300 at our biggest race of the year. We have developed our programming and expanded racing categories from 6 when we started to 20 in 2021.We are truly inclusive, allowing children of all ages and abilities to participate in our programs - that is something MiSCA is extremely proud of. Today, MiSCA employs multiple part-time staff to manage the organization year-round and 13 seasonal race staff. MiSCA now serves more than 1,100 student-athletes, supported by 500 certified coaches.
