ordered 2 of these and both leaked where the main tube meets the smaller nut. Totally disassembled and fixed the misaligned screen and re-attached the water hose adapter. With these wrench tight, I was able to use pliers and hold the main tube and rotate it around some which allowed for the flared end to seat properly in the smaller nut and stop the leak. most likely, there was a bur on each flare preventing it from sealing correctly. Adjustment to the water depth was extremely easy and the bowl doesn't over fill and the birds have clean water without us having to refill them daily. If the bowl gets dirty, its easy to dump out or remove for better cleaning without turning water off. I would recommend and will buy again.

I give it stars because I have tried so many other automatic waters and I always come back to this one. I do recommend buying a valve changer kit as someone else stated. It is worth buying the 2 items together. Thanks Taylor for your review!!

This works awesome for chickens. If u have ducks save ur money unless u wanna clean it everyday. The ducks will fill it with dirt and because it works by weight it won't let anymore water into it.

I bought this device to use as a dog waterer for my outside dogs. It is a source of constant fresh cool water for the dogs. It works well but had to be adapted to fit directly to a hydrant.

If you don't want to flood out your chickens, you will need to have a drain or draining system. This doesn't fill and then stop. It overflows and drains into your coop or run. Design flaw.As all farmers do, we continue the design process for lazy product engineers. As you see in photos, I made a simple lift and overflow drain system.1 plastic bowl (think dollar store)Pea gravel (or larger rocks would also do)2 plastic strawsSome low temp hot glue (to seal around straws)When the overflow reaches straw level, it will drain outside of the run. The rocks help keep straws in place and help to level the water bowl. Also, you'll need a spacer for the top cover if you buy it (sold separately and highly recommended) so the birds can get their head inbetween. I went to the plumbing store here called Grover's Plumbing, showed them what I needed and they found all the right pieces to space and screw together the whole ensemble.Overall, it's decent and compact and provides a constant supply of water. Make sure you do not full blast your hose into it, as the inner valve is not rated for city water pressure. I have mine on a very slow trickle and it keeps the bowl full and overflowing. It was definitely more work and cost than I expected. It's NOT a plug and play item. You will need to fix the overflow issue in design flaw.

Need more detail on how to install. Should emphasize that the bowl must be hanging to operate properly. Should include the fitting required to apply to a hose. Should include extra valve cores, as I had to change the one supplied, it was defective. Why not make a stand for application of the product? There is one available for the larger size product? This is A GOOD PRODUCT and adding all the necessary components at a reasonable price would increase sales. Make it easy on the consumer. Applied the product to a gravity feed food grade 55 gallon barrel and it is working great. No more worries about the hens running out of water.

This might be difficult for an amateur to install but my son is good at plumbing so he placed it without problem. It works as advertised and in the current 100 degrees plus weather the chickens always have water.

Looks like a decent product but doesn't fit our faucets. Time to go find a coupling piece.

I bought this for my ducks. It's not bad for the money, nice having constant water and not having to bucket it in all the time. Only thing is I had to adjust the fill valve with the two nuts inside the stem, as it wouldn't automatically refill at first. But a one minute adjustment and it's been good for a week so far.

Setup was pretty easy however over time I am finding I have to adjust it on an almost daily basis to try to keep the water in the bowl without overflowing. Maybe the larger bowl version works better as the smaller one either overflows or never fills up. Just cant seem to ever find the right setting.Update: I replaced the stock shredder value with a new one and it works 100 better and I have way better control over the water level. I found the original shredder value was leaking even when disconnected from the bowl.

I will echo what others have said about it not holding the water level. Seems that I have to go and adjust it every day or so as it either fills up to the rim or it doesn't fill up at all. I don't know why it doesn't seem to be able to hold the fill at the same level from day to day. I have a couple of ducks using it and they only touch the water, they don't hit against the bowl or stem, so I am at a loss. But I really like the concept. I am giving it 4 stars because it pretty much does what I want it to do, but I have to babysit it a lot more than I expected.

We've been using the waterer for our chickens for almost 10 years now. Haven't come across anything better. Some things to note:- It can be a little finicky in terms of adjusting and tightening, especially the small nozzle at the end which sometimes needs to be tightened with a small pair of pliers. Also the nut that controls the spring can slip over time leading to overflow, it helps to get this set properly and then use a litle loc-tite to hold it.- When we've needed new parts there was no ability to order what we need, so we now have several waterer that we use for parts when needed. This also allows us to rotate bowls, which can get a little dirty and smelly. So keep an eye on that and wash the bowl every now and then.So happy with this overall, though over the years we've spent a fair amount of money on the duplicate purchases for parts.

We have been using this for 10 years and it's just now starting to act up. We have had to adjust the valve a little bit every six months or so to keep the water level correct but we have no real complaints.I Made a stand for it out of half-inch PVC and add a hose connection. It is connected to the hose with a quick disconnect so if it is going to freeze I just disconnected and bring it in the house until morning.
