Mission: Since 2011, MMI has operated as a community based nonprofit instrumental summer music program for young people in the Great State of Mississippi. We have students from cities that include Jackson, Vicksburg, Madison, Canton, Port Gibson, Natchez, Laurel, Hattiesburg and several other communities in the state. The organization’s stated purpose is “to bring student musicians together to develop, enhance, and expose their musical skills. ” MMI also aims to create pathways to educational opportunities for students and to provide a positive setting for the youth to participate in constructive activities each summer, giving them a positive platform to express their artistic skills. The ultimate purpose of MMI is to foster a dynamic learning environment, while creating a cultural phenomenon, providing extrinsic motivation to students throughout the ENTIRE state of Mississippi. I am looking to raise over a $300,000 to assist with curriculum and instruction for our students by providing them with adequate equipment/instruments. Direct beneficiaries per year: 240 students and held the 7th Annual Independence Day Showdown which drew more than 2,000 people.
Geographic areas served: throughout the entire state of Mississippi
Programs: summer enrichment ensembles that included the Magnolia All-Stars for middle/high school students and the Mississippi Alumni All-Star Band for graduating seniors along with traditional/non-traditional college students.
